As one of Central Florida’s best places to live, I want to highlight what makes Winter Park and Maitland so special. Being just fifteen minutes from the hustle and bustle of downtown Orlando, you’d be surprised at how relaxing life is in Winter Park. This trendy community is filled with boutique shops, lush outdoor spaces, and lots of beautiful lake front properties. Here are five standout reasons why I think you should consider Winter Park & Maitland, FL, for your dream home.
Park Avenue & Farmers’ Market.
Under the canopy of Central Park is Park Avenue, Winter Park’s shopping, dining, and cultural center. The street is home to more than 140 boutique shops, independent cafes, bars, and eateries, as well as museums and other points of cultural interest. Park Avenue is part of what makes Winter Park so unique, few other Orlando suburbs can boast of such a diverse and independent-focused shopping and dining parade. Nearby is Winter Park’s Saturday Farmers’ Market, which is housed in Central Park West Meadow. Every weekend you can visit to pick up locally sourced produce, baked goods, and delicious coffee! People travel from far and wide to visit the Winter Park Farmers’ Market, so having it on your doorstep is a serious bonus.
If you’re hoping to relocate to Winter Park & Maitland with your kids, you have many excellent schools to choose from, whether your kids are pre, middle, or high school age. The Dommerich school district is highly sought after and other high performing public schools include Lakemont Elementary, Maitland Middle and Winter Park High. Alternatively, if you would prefer to educate your kids privately, you have a lots of options including Trinity Preparatory School, Lake Highland, The Geneva School and St. Margaret Mary located right on Park Ave. I know how important it is to find your kids a great school, which is why I think Winter Park is an ideal community for young families.
Great parks and outdoor spaces.
One of the best things about Winter Park is the abundant parks and outdoor spaces dotted around the community. Most notable of all is Central Park, a popular area for families with kids, dog-walkers, and joggers who enjoy the year-round sunshine in this beautiful setting. Central Park is also the venue for the Winter Park Sidewalk Arts Festival, which showcases more than 1,000 artists from all over the world. So, if you’re looking for an area where your kids can play safely outdoors while you enjoy some unique Florida culture, Winter Park is the perfect place to search for your next home.
Chain of lakes.
Did you know that Winter Park is home to a chain of six lakes? That’s a lot of water for a relatively small community! Some of the most impressive properties sit at the waterfront, boast beautiful views, and provide a serene living environment. The lakes are connected by navigable canals, which can be explored by kayak for those of you seeking adventure. They’re also popular with locals for various other sports, including water-skiing, paddle boarding, and fishing. Winding your way through the waterways, you will eventually arrive at the stunning Kraft Azalea Garden, located on the shores of Lake Maitland. I love it here; it’s a truly spectacular place to enjoy a warm summer evening.
For those of you new to the area, Sunrail connects sixteen stations across forty-nine miles, through Volusia, Seminole, Orange, and Osceola Counties. Winter Park’s station is situated by the intersection of Morse Boulevard and Park Avenue, the ideal access point from the center of town. You don’t need me to tell you how convenient having a public transport stop within walking distance of your home is, but it’s another excellent draw of Winter Park. Within minutes, you can be in downtown Orlando from Winter Park and enjoy all of the fantastic attractions that the city is renowned for.
